Hand Dryers and Paper Towels ? Which is more Hygienic and Environmentally Friendly?
There has long been the discussion over the benefit and disadvantages of hand dryers and paper towels – which is better for the environment/cheaper/more hygienic. Both carry an environmental cost, but overall it is the hand dryers that use less energy (and therefore have a lower carbon footprint) than paper towels – including the transformation and manufacture.
It is because the hand dryers last much longer than paper towel dispensers – usually between 7 and 10 years – that they score better as manufacture costs are negligible. However it is not always the case that hand towel are greener are there are manufacturers who specialize in the production of paper towels that are greener and more environmentally friendly. These hand towels are composed of recycled material as the production of recycled paper takes 40% less energy and creating new paper. However, paper towels once used cannot be recycled.
Hand dryers are also claimed to be more hygienic – however this is also under scrutiny from experts. Some researchers have found that the hot air speeds up to the drying of the hands and thereby killing the microorganisms. Handdryers can reach crevices in the hands that paper towels cannot reach even though the skin may appear drier.
Handy Dryers have been criticised for being too slow or noisy and not providing the public with access to towels to clean up spills. Some reports have even found that the number of bacteria on the hands was found to increase on average after using a hand dryer rather than the reduction seen by using paper towels. The spread of micro-organisms has been researched by experts as it is feared that more powerful handdryers can cause cross contamination.
Antioxidants, Free Radicals, and Sports Nutrition
As you know, I am a physician. It’s part of my profession to keep abreast of what’s happening in medical /health research. Being retired helps, because doctors simply do not generally have the “extra time” to devote to the scientific literature.
But I do. And I love it. I am one of those individuals who really enjoys …brace yourself…chemistry. When I’m done here, you should be excited too, especially if you are interested in sports nutrition and antioxidants, though not necessarily in that order.
Sports nutrition is a vast industry with emphasis on optimizing PERFORMANCE. Off hand, I can think of quite a few categories involving sports nutrition:
* sports nutrition and supplements for athletes,
* sports nutrition and athletic performance,
* sports nutrition and body building,
* sports nutrition and endurance training,
* sports nutrition and special diets in a variety of sports,
* sports nutrition and strength training,
* sports nutrition for running, jogging, walking, skiing, swimming
* There’s even Rocky Mountain sports nutrition
* …the list is endless.
So far, no surprises, huh? Well, here’s one for you. Did you know that when you exercise intensively you INCREASE the free radical burden in your body? If you’re a serious sports enthusiast, you should know that.

Hygiene supplies for Pubs and Clubs are a must

Pubs and clubs are hectic places and have become the most frequent meeting points for social events in urban environments. They offer a cheerful atmosphere, nice music, beers, ales spirits and all sorts of beverages, some pubs often offer food during the day and a place to enjoy a night out.
All these incentives sometimes turn these places into crowded spaces, mainly during the weekends, when most part of a city’s population is relieved from their job duties. Such a concentration of people brings long some logistic needs that other places do not have to think of, owing to their much less customer turnout, such as cleanliness and hygiene supplies.
As much as the music, the nice environment and the alcoholic drinks, it also forms part of the joyful experience the estate of cleanliness of the toilet/washroom facilities. It is actually rather off-putting to leave a place in which you are enjoying yourself to visit suddenly a washroom which lacks washroom supplies of all sorts as well as maintenance or a proper cleaning service. This unpleasant surprise might be the perfect excuse to leave the place and jump to the pub or club next door, even more taking into account the fact that all these businesses tend to be concentrated in small areas precisely to provide the customer with a chance to visit different places and styles during the same night.
Arthritis, Nutrition and You!
Although progress in the field of arthritis and nutrition is slow, we fully expect to see further justification of these theories as medical science progresses. Here is a brief look at the ongoing research of arthritis and nutrition. There has been a lot of research that identifies the relationship between arthritis and nutrition.
Arthritis means inflammation of a joint or joints. Arthritis is usually caused by what people eat and drink and is becoming very common in people of all ages which will probably affect 90% of people by the age of 60. Arthritis is a poorly understood condition but some scientists believe that rheumatoid arthritis is the result of a micro-organism or other foreign substance in the body. Arthritis is the general name for a group of more than 100 diseases and becomes more prevalent as we age. Arthritis is one of the most common chronic degenerative conditions today, affecting as many as 100 million people worldwide. Can the foods you eat cause or affect your arthritis? Diet is a major role player in the onset of arthritis. There are some scientific reasons to think that the foods you eat could affect certain kinds of arthritis.
Evidence shows that excessive weight and the type of diet you follow may influence symptoms of certain types of arthritis and related conditions. Research has shown several connections between food, nutritional supplements (vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids) and certain forms of arthritis or related conditions, such as gout, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or RA, and reactive arthritis. Healthcare professionals strongly recommend that people with arthritis follow a diet based on variety, balance and moderation. The treatment for arthritis usually focuses on medications that reduce inflammation, which decreases pain and increases mobility.
What You Should Know About A Hygienic Conveyor
A hygienic conveyor is used in mainly in food industry plants and sites. It is necessary for moving foods through the various processes that are related to preparing and packaging foods. Food production standards in the United States place strict controls upon hygiene. Cleanliness in prepared foods is paramount. A few other applications require scrupulous attention to cleanliness, including pharmaceuticals and chemical processes.
Food industry sites have many elements where hygienic control is necessary. In order for food products to be safely conveyed from one location to another, the conveyor belt must be formed of materials that are not only clean, but must remain clean through heavy use and wear. It’s important for the lengths of belting to be as long as possible, since every seam is an area where the buildup of bacteria and dirt can occur.
Because conveyor belts must be dependable so that downtime is avoided, the materials used in belt construction must by strong and durable. Plastics such as silicone, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyurethane, polyvinylchloride or blends are often used for hygienic surfaces on the belts. The belts must be durable without adding odors or particles to the food.
Another important quality of the conveyor material is that is releases food from the surface. Any hint of roughness and the microscopic particles will remain on the surface. These create odor and stains that can reduce the quality of the finished food product. In addition, micro organisms on the belt hasten its deterioration. Sometimes a belt is made of one material as a center core, while the surface is a second, even more hygienic material. The reverse side of the belt may be coated and sealed as well.
