Technology and low milage

without comments

The actuaries who calculate the risk for insurance companies have always known that, the lower the annual milage, the lower the risk you will be involved in an accident. There’s always been the same problem about giving discounts. People are economical with the truth. Give a financial incentive like lower premium rates, and they will swear on a stack of bibles their vehicles gather dust in the garage. Since the insurance company cannot afford to employ a team of inspectors to monitor garages and follow drivers around to verify the actual number of miles driven a month or year, the insurers have either had to “believe” what people say or withdraw the offer of a discount. For decades, the majority of companies have only offered token discounts in situations where a claimed low milage is reasonably credible, e.g. when the insured is retired. But now technology is riding to the rescue of both insurer and insured.

Over the last twenty or so years, there’s been a design revolution. In the pre-technology days, vehicles were essentially mechanical. Now they are “intelligent”, i.e. a vast number of chips control the way the vehicle handles and responds when being driven. The reason for this change has been the ability to make a chip and control circuitry that’s strong enough to survive in the real world. Equally important is the cheapness of these chips. If they are physically located in the engine compartment, they must be able to stand the changes in temperature from the prevailing to the heat of operation. There will be vibration and shocks as the engine operates and the vehicles hits potholes. Put the chips in the suspension, wheel or braking assemblies and there will be rain, snow and ice to contend with. It’s been remarkable to watch this happen so quickly.

How to produce an effective pain management?

without comments

Starting off with a statement that pain is just an extension of touch we can say we regularly feel some levels of pressure: comfortable, acceptable, or uncomfortable. In the latest case we are immediately alerted and if the discomfort turns into pain – are motivated to take action. And that transition of a touch into pain is an essential part of the bodily process allowing us to avoid injury in our dangerous modern environment. Well we cannot simply switch off pain with an act of will. We continue to feel some pain unless a drug or a therapy produces a sort of unconsciousness. So the essential question is how to organize a satisfying living with continuing pain?

The marketers won’t tell you similar things. Aiming to sell you the range of drugs produced by the pharmaceutical industry they have been brainwashing the customer making they believe there’s a pill to cure all your ills. This is not a lie that some drugs are very effective for a time, but an important addition is the fact that all drugs slowly lose their effectiveness as the body adapts to them. So the pain sufferers have the choice of giving up the drugs or increasing the dosage risking dependence. Actually there are millions of people addicted to prescription drugs. Stopping without experiencing unpleasant withdrawal symptoms is a very rare case.

The most popular medication and other opioid painkillers

without comments

Ultram is one of the most popular medications used for pain management these days. It is considered as the most commonly prescribed painkiller medication in the US these days and there are several reasons for such a vast popularity this drug enjoys among doctors and patients. The main benefit Ultram delivers is it’s universal effectiveness in what concerns pain relief. It doesn’t really matter what causes he pain because Ultram doesn’t affect the source of pain signals but rather blocks them from being interpreted by the brain and experienced as ordinary pain. That’s how all opioid analgesics work and before you start using Ultram it is highly recommended that you learn more about opioid painkillers first.

Opioid painkillers were one of the first to be introduced to the medicine. For a long time opium poppy seeds and their extract were used as a powerful analgesic in smaller doses. In larger doses this substance is infamous for being one of the most devastating recreational drugs in the world – heroin, which is a derivative of morphine. Morphine was one of the most commonly used potent analgesics in its time until its misuse lead to serious limitation and regulation of its use. Morphine is still used for pain management under strict medical supervision and quantitative regulation for relieving the most severe forms of pain. Another common painkiller of opioid nature is codeine that is also used for addressing severe types of pain. Ultram may be not as potent as these substances but it is also an opioid analgesic, which means that it shares the same mechanism of action as these drugs. And that’s the most important aspect of this drug class that you have to know before using any medication of this class.

Auto insurance for students

without comments

Auto insurance is mandatory for anyone driving a vehicle in the US and there’s no way going around it. No matter whether it’s your first car or you’ve already retired and have decades of experience behind the wheel you will still need auto insurance for your car since the law tells so. Besides the legal framework of auto insurance there’s also simple common sense involved in its mandatory nature. Auto insurance covers your costs in case of an accidents, which can be substantial assuming current repair and medical bills. Having your car insured is cheaper in terms of such costs than driving around without insurance. However, for a particular group of drivers this benefit may seem not to be that obvious.

We are talking about students and teens in general. This group of drivers usually faces the highest auto insurance rates possible simply because of their age. But before you claim that it’s discriminatory, let’s consider the logic behind such a decision taken by all insurance companies at once. As you know, insurance companies are all about managing their risks and the only way they can hedge their risks is putting rates that will cover their costs and earn them income. So if teen drivers are charged with higher rates they somehow seem to pose a higher risk to insurers. And according to statistics that’s exactly how things are. Drivers aged under 25 usually have little driving experience and produce more accidents with higher costs than drivers of other age groups. Of course, this doesn’t mean that all young drivers are bad drivers, but the overall tendency is exactly as described and that’s the situation where one good driver will pay for the rest of worse drivers.

Generic Ultram ER gets FDA approval

without comments

The pharmaceutical industry has a mixed view of generics and this shows up in the way drugs are marketed. Every manufacturer wants to promote the sales of its big-selling branded drugs. Once the research and development costs have been recovered, they are very high-profit products either until the end of the patent period or until the other manufacturers independently recreate the chemistry and patent their own versions. To protect the home market during the term of the patent, manufacturers therefore push the message the branded drugs are the trusted, reliable drugs. The generics are cheap copies which may be fake because they come from foreign manufacturers, or may be understrength or contaminated because of poor manufacturing standards. This is scare tactics designed to deter you from logging on to the internet and buying “cheap” drugs from international pharmacies. The manufacturers want you paying top dollar and keeping their profit margins high. But the patents run out and, whether the manufacturers want it or not, the generics appear and drive down the price of the affected drugs. This is finally good news for all those who have been buying at their local drugstores.

Insurance for the small business owner

without comments

The recession may have finished as a matter of technical accounting, but the general economic conditions for business remain very difficult. Whether you are a start-up or continue as a small business owner, there’s a temptation to cut the business overheads to the bone. This can be a false economy. Let’s start with a little law. If you are trading as an individual or a partnership, you are personally liable on all the contracts you make and for any losses arising due to your negligence (or criminal activity). Although there are slight variations in the law from state-to-state, the general rule about an LLC is that you are personally liable in tort and for any crimes you may commit, but there’s a shield to prevent you from incurring liability in contract. The general rule for a full corporation is you avoid personal liability under both contract and tort, although you can still be sued if members of the company believe you have breached your fiduciary duties as a director or senior officer. The other piece of law you need to know is that either you or the company will be held vicariously liable for whatever an employee does during the course of the employment. So if an employee is driving a vehicle owned by the business or driving his or her own vehicle on company business, either you or the company will be liable if the employee drives negligently and causes loss to a third party.
