Why Oral Hygiene Matters

without comments

If you think that going to the dentist is just a way to make your smile look nice, than I have to tell you that you are sadly mistaken! The fact of the matter is that a trip to the dentist isnt about vanity at all, no, a trip to the dentist is all about health. To be specific, oral hygiene is the name of the game when it comes to trips to the dentist.
Sure we all want a nice looking smile, but for many of us that isnt enough to get us to the dentist. What so many people fail to realize is that a trip to the dentist isnt just about keeping your smile looking its best, but rather a trip to the dentist is mostly about keeping your mouth healthy. In turn, when you keep your mouth healthy, you keep the rest of your body healthy as well. Many people fail to realize that the mouth can harbor bacteria and can actually be the cause of many other physical ailments. So the long and short of it is that it is simply the best idea to keep your mouth as healthy as possible by going to a dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings.
You can start to take care of your mouth by doing things like brushing and flossing, you might even try using a waterpik or mouth rinse, but what it comes down to is that good oral hygiene starts at home. How many times have we heard the classic line; You havent been flossing, have you? Well these words are so well known because many people fail to do the simple things at home that could make their trips to the dentist just that much easier! Taking care of your teeth at home is the first step towards proper oral hygiene; the next step is to check in with your dentist on a regular basis to make sure that all is going well with your mouth and teeth.
If you have a fear of the dentist you can do much to make your visits shorter and easier by having exceptional oral health before you enter the door. This way the dentist will have relatively little to do! It seems like a common idea, but if you maintain your car regularly at home by cleaning it, changing the oil, changing the transmission fluid, flushing the cooling system, etc. you will have relatively few, and relatively brief trips to the mechanic. The same logic applies to your teeth as well. The more you do to maintain them in your own home the less you will have to have done in the dentist office. So start taking care of your teeth at home today by brushing, rinsing, flossing, and whatever else your dentist might recommend. That way you will be assured to have great oral health and simpler trips to the dentist, but always remember to keep up with your cleanings as well, its always important to see your dentist for a routine cleaning.

Basics of oral hygiene

without comments

We all love food and if we don’t have healthy teeth we can’t enjoy it. We may not be aware that some part of digestion occurs in mouth. So food must be chewed properly. Therefore every care is required for dental well being.

Oral hygiene is basically the concept of keeping our mouth and teeth clean and clear in order to prevent problems related to dental. Our teeth often suffer from dental decay, caries, gingivitis and dental traumas. Oral hygiene is not restricted to mere brushing, but lots of steps need to be followed.

Cleaning your teeth

Plaque and tartar gets deposited on the teeth and causes dental problems like cavities, gingivitis and gum disease. Therefore plaque and tartar must be removed.  Gum disease is responsible for loss of tooth in early ages and adults.

Tooth decay is a common disease affecting all of us.

Most of the cavities occur due to the food left in the pits of the teeth. And in these fissures brush cannot have access. Saliva and fluoride helps to neutralize acids and repair the demineralized teeth with remineralisation but it could not reach at the site of decay. So dentists apply material which seals the fissures and prevent demineralization. Dental scaling and polishing are advised after every six months.
Floss your teeth

Floss is a fine thread used to clean the spaces between the teeth. Flossing once in a day is useful. Thereafter if fluoride toothpaste is used it is easily able to reach the gums and teeth and helps to remineralise teeth.

Hygiene Disposal Units UK

without comments

In 1992, the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations ruled that all businesses in the UK were required by law to provide measures by which sanitary waste could be disposed of in ladies bathrooms. Previous legislation had already ruled that such waste could not be flushed down toilets as it posed a blockage risk; most companies consequently purchased hygiene disposal units to manage the waste in a clean, safe manner.

Hygiene units are designed to comply with government legislation, so companies can rest assured that providing sanitary bins they are fulfilling their legal ‘duty of care’ placed upon them by the Environmental Protection Act in 1990.

The same legislation, which dictates that ‘all waste produced on your premises is correctly managed’, has led businesses with baby changing facilities or crèches to provide nappy disposal units as well.

While some people might question the expense of equipping their office with hygiene disposal units, they should note that failure to comply with the regulations could cost them over £2,000.

To prove their compliance, businesses need a Duty of Care Certificate and Waste Transfer documentation –most hygiene suppliers will this provide free of charge – which certifies that their waste is being collected and disposed of correctly.

Hygiene units are an all safer, more sterile option than normal waste bins. With a foot pedal and / or automatic sensor to open the lid, disposal units are hygienic and hands free. Integral flaps built into the lid, stop sanitary waste spilling out and make it easier for employee’s to dispose of waste without having to touch the bin.

Maintaining Good Hygiene

without comments

Maintaining basic personal hygiene is incredibly important and if you ever go to the toilet, or prepare to make food, most of us will usually be sure to wash our hands to prevent the spread of disease. This is incredibly important as failure to do so would mean that when we touch food, or put our hands near our mouths, we then spread bacteria and end up consuming it where it could cause us to become ill or otherwise have a negative effect on our bodies such as causing a viral infection.

When you are talking about health services however such as doctors wards or hospitals, hygiene becomes far more important and this makes Medline products that are aimed at helping you t o prevent the spread of disease and maintain optimum hygiene.

In a hospital hygiene is even more important that in a home for many reasons. Firstly, it is no longer just your own health that is at stake, but the health of everyone who is under your care. At the same time, all of these people will have put their trust in your care, and will be particularly susceptible to illness as they will have already weakened immune systems. Meanwhile there will likely be more bacteria and viruses around as everyone is ill meaning that there is more to spread. Thankfully, hospitals and the like can take advantage of Medline products etc to help keep this to a minimum.

Dental Hygiene Appointments

without comments

Having your teeth cleaned may seem unnecessary, even to the point that you feel you can skip cleanings until you have a tooth ache or damaged tooth. But keeping your annual cleaning appointment is one of the best ways to prevent unnecessary damage to your teeth, and it can even save you from tooth aches and tooth loss as you age.

Your annual dental hygiene appointmentsare probably very similar to one another, unless you have lost a tooth or suffered damage to your teeth. You settle in the dentist’s chair, an assistant or hygienist performs the regular cleaning routine, and then your dentist comes in and takes a look in your mouth. Maybe he suggests that you make an appointment to have a cavity filled, but the conversation may be brief and soon you are on your way again.

What Your Dentist is Checking For

But when your dentist takes those valuable minutes to look into your mouth and examine your teeth and gums, there is more going on than a cursory glance to make you feel that the cost of the visit was justified.

While your dentist is looking into and feeling around in your mouth, you are actually undergoing an exam of your teeth and gums, and your dentist is looking for:
Early signs of gum disease
Excessive wearing to your teeth that may indicate a neuromuscular problem
Damage to fillings or dental crowns that need to be replaced
Dental decay including cavities or weak enamel
