Dwarf Hamster Illnesses
I know a lot of people who don’t own hamsters will not believe what I say but, in my opinion dwarf hamsters are just like humans. I say this because…they get sick. They show all of the symptoms of human illnesses that we show. They sneeze, they hiccup. They’re little nose even runs! How much more proof do you need? Well, in this article we are going to list some of the most common dwarf hamster illnesses, and what you can do to prevent them.
1. Diabetes – All hamsters have a genetic disposition to diabetes,(This is not just a human disease.) and they catch it the same way we catch it. Too many sweets! So to prevent this disease in your dwarf hamster, please don’t give him too many sweets or fruit. Make sure that you include a good amount of vegetables in their diet.
2. Cancer – We all know what cancer is, and it is not just a human disease.
Dwarf Hamsters get it too. What causes it? Who knows. We don’t even know what causes some cancers in humans, but I bet living in a stressful environment is a factor. Try to make your hamsters environment as stress free as possible. That brings us to disease/illness number 3:
Common Illnesses in Dogs
Dogs are prone to a number of illnesses. But unlike people, dogs aren’t able to seek out treatment on their own. Because they rely on you for their well-being, it’s important for you to be aware of the various potential ailments and how to recognize them. Quickly identifying that something is wrong could be what saves your dog’s life.
The following is a list of some of the most common types of diseases and illnesses that affect dogs, and how to identify them:
Dental Illnesses
Dental illnesses or Dental diseases refer to any condition that impacts our dental organs such as the teeth and gums. Some of the most common dental illnesses include Tooth decay, Tooth infection and pain, Gingivitis, Periodontitis, Impacted tooth and Canker sores.
Here’s a brief list of some of the most common dental diseases:
Bad Breath
Bad breath or ‘Halitosis’ is one of the most prevalent dental problems, caused by different kinds of severe dental conditions such as Gum disease, Cavities, Oral cancer, Dry mouth and bacteria on the tongue. Therefore, if you suffer from bad breath, do visit your dentist for a thorough diagnosis.
Tooth Decay
Tooth decay happens when plaque in the teeth combines with the sugar and starch present in the food that we consume.
This unhealthy combination produces acids that adversely affects the tooth enamel and destroys it. The best way to prevent tooth decay is to brush and floss twice a day, go for regular dental check-ups and to avoid eating snacks and drinks that have significantly high sugar levels.
Periodontal Disease
Gum disease or Periodontal Disease is a major cause of tooth loss among grown-ups. There are two types of Gum diseases: Gingivitis and Periodontitis. According to studies, Gum disease increases the risks of heart attacks and strokes. Gum disease can be prevented by regular dental check-ups and brushing and flossing your teeth daily.
Oral Cancer
Oral cancer is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, every year, worldwide.
Heat Illnesses
Sports players, construction workers, and others who frequently labor for long hours outside may run the risk of suffering a heat-related illness, especially during the hot summer months. It is extremely important for these individuals to take the necessary breaks to cool down, rest and rehydrate. If they fail to do so, of if they are unable to do so, then they may be putting themselves at risk of suffering from a potentially dangerous heat-related illness.
Heat illnesses arise when the body cannot maintain its normal temperature. Typically, the body rids itself of excess heat through sweating and moving blood flow close to the skin. When it cannot dump heat fast or efficiently enough, its temperature rises above normal and can even reach dangerous levels.
In order to maintain a safe body temperature, those working in extremely hot conditions should take enough breaks as necessary to ensure that they do not overheat. If possible, these periods of rest should be spent in cooler, shadier environments. Liquids such as water and electrolyte-infused beverages should be consumed regularly in order to maintain hydration and replace the minerals lost through sweating.
Types of Illnesses Caused by Heat
The body will go through several stages of heat illness before it enters a life-threatening condition. Typically, they progress in the following manner:
· Heat Rash: Itchy and red skin caused by too much sweating – the sweat ducts can swell or become blocked, which results in surface irritation
· Heat Cramps: Cramped muscles caused by too many minerals and too much water lost through sweating
